With a sickening crack, like that of bones snapping, the door frame gave way. The heavy door fell inward, sending up a cloud of grey dust as it landed on the cement floor. Two heavily armed SWAT team officers stormed in with their 9 mm Sig Sauer service weapons held at the ready for their expected target. On their heels the detective, also in full protective gear, stepped in behind them. A tinge of disappointment gave them a moment’s pause as they looked upon an empty apartment. It only lasted a second before each man kicked into action, systematically searching every space of the run down place. None of them relaxed until everything was cleared.
