The Dragonfly and the Ferris Wheel
The midday sun beat down on the bustling amusement park. Laughter and screams echoed through the air, a symphony of summer fun. Maya stood anxiously before the towering Ferris wheel, its spokes reaching for the sky like a giant silver spider. Today was her birthday, and the Ferris wheel ride was a tradition she shared with her dad. But today, her dad was nowhere to be found.
Maya scanned the park, spotting a familiar bright blue Hawaiian shirt disappearing around a corner. “Dad!” she called, chasing after him. She found him at a food stall, forehead creased in worry as he stared at a tangled mess of wires. The normally bubbly cotton candy vendor looked distraught.
“The machine stalled, Maya,” her dad sighed. “Looks like there won’t be any cotton candy today.”
Disappointment threatened to cloud Maya’s birthday. Cotton candy was a must-have on their Ferris wheel ride. But then, a flash of blue caught her eye. A dragonfly, its wings shimmering like stained glass, landed precariously on the control panel of the stalled machine.
Curiosity sparked in Maya’s eyes. Taking a deep breath, she reached out a finger, offering the dragonfly a perch. It cautiously climbed onto her finger, then fluttered towards the control panel. A small, loose wire caught its attention. With a delicate touch, the dragonfly nudged the wire back into place.
Suddenly, the machine whirred to life. Pink cotton candy began to spin out, its sweet scent filling the air. The vendor stared in disbelief, then grinned. “Thanks, little one!” he exclaimed, handing Maya a giant pink cloud.
Holding the fluffy treat, Maya beamed. The dragonfly, its mission complete, flew off into the park. Maybe this birthday ride would be even more special after all. With her dad by her side and a cotton candy cloud in hand, Maya boarded the Ferris wheel, feeling a newfound wonder for the magic hidden in the smallest creatures.
